The 2nd Annual Reyno Spring Festival will be held June 1st from 9am to 1pm at the City Park and former Elementary school on historic Rock N’ Roll Highway 67.

Shady River Adds Tree House

Shady River Nature Resort on the beautiful Eleven Point River in Randolph County has a new feature. In addition to its uniquely appointed cottages on a bluff overlooking the river, it now offers tree house accommodations. ”Firefly”, a two level tree house is now available for occupancy.

Located in a natural area of giant white oaks, the cool accommodation overlooks a huge meadow where deer graze each evening and morning and birds and other wildlife are abundant. With wide porches both above and below, the fully furnished tree house is decorated in an African theme inside. Traveling the wonderful nature trails at Shady River either by electric cart or by hiking, visitors can easily imagine they’re on safari at an exotic location. Otherwise, one can enjoy swimming, kayaking, canoeing, or fishing in the pristine, cool waters of the spring fed Eleven Point River, last refuge of the endangered Ozark Hellbender.

2013 Annual Tourism Banquet

The Randolph County Tourism Association’s 2013 Annual Banquet will be held tonight, May 16th, 6:30pm at the Randolph County Development Center, Black River Technical College.

Scott Sudduth will be the guest speaker tonight.

Sudduth has been in the hospitality industry for 30 years, this includes hotel, food and beverage, and convention management. He worked for major hotel chains such as Holiday Inn Corp, Hilton, Adams Mark, and Mahogany Run St. Thomas U.S.V.I. He had the position as Director of Marketing for Quality Foods Inc a foodservice distributor in Arkansas, for the past 17 years.

He is a member of the Arkansas Hospitality Association, and currently holds a CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) designation from the Convention Industry Council. He was named by Convention South Magazine as “Meeting Professional to watch” in 2005.

He was also inducted into the Arkansas Hospitality Association “Hall of Fame” in 2005.

He and his family reside in Little Rock. Scott is very excited about being involved with the “Welcome to Arkansas” campaign.

Hummingbird Feeders

Hummingbirds are now welcome in downtown Pocahontas. Several businesses in the downtown National Historic District have hung feeders for hummers outside hoping the little fellows will discover this abundant food source and start hanging around. People of all ages seem to enjoy the antics of these amazing birds. Ours are all ruby throated hummers who’ve recently arrived from South America on their annual journey north. Thy seem to really appreciate the welcoming gesture of their favorite food, sugar water. At the same time, their arrival is timed to coincide with the spring flowering of trees–they even seem to visit the oak catkins now hanging abundantly in our local forests.

We are now accepting applications for vendors for the Music Festival.

Retail and craft booths are available for $25 for a 10 x 10 booth. Food booths are available for $30 per 10 foot booth. If you require electricity, there will be an additional $10 charge for 110 volts (no heat press or microwaves may be used).

Applications are due by August 24th.

Labor Day weekend is a great time for cook outs and camping. It’s also a great time to enjoy various programs, like owl prowls, star gazing, black powder demonstrations and town site tours, at Davidsonville Historic State Park. Call the park or check our website for specific programs, times and prices.

The Great Arkansas Clean-Up – September 15, 2012
9am to noon

All across Arkansas people will be coming together to clean up our beautiful state. Show your state pride by helping the park staff clean up one of your Arkansas State Parks. We’re here to help you make memories, so let’s make them trash free memories. Refreshments will be provided.

Ghosts of Davidsonville Fall Festival – October 13, 2012

It’s that time again. There’s a chill in the air, color in the trees, pumpkins abound and what’s that? Do you hear the whisperings of ghosts down at Davidsonville? Gather up the family and come on down for our annual Ghosts of Davidsonville Fall Festival. Activities include musical performances, carnival games, face painting, balloon artist, carnival food and of course the historic hayride around the Davidsonville town site and through the decorated campground. This event is perfect for children of all ages, and we’re certain even adults will enjoy themselves at the Ghosts of Davidsonville Fall Festival.
